with Sibyl Darrington

Clinical massage is a focused treatment for chronic pain conditions and injuries where specific areas are targeted for treatment. A variety of techniques are used from myofascial release and trigger point therapy to soften tissue release and muscle energy technique to release areas of tightness, pain and dysfunction, as well as improve range of movement and performance.

Clinical massage can help with many kinds of pain related problems, such as headaches, neck stiffness, repetitive strain injuries (RSI), shoulder problems, carpal tunnel syndrome, low back pain, scoliosis, hip pain, sciatica, knee pain, shin splints, foot pain. Treatment can sometimes be painful, therefore constant dialogue between client and therapist will be required to ensure the client remains comfortable throughout the treatment.

Sports massage is an effective form of physical therapy for active sports people or those recovering from a soft tissue injury. It can help relieve muscle tension and restore balance to the soft tissue. The therapy involves the manipulation of the soft tissues of the body, isolating individual muscle groups using specific techniques. It can enhance the sports person’s performance, lessening the chance of injury as well as helping with recovery after taking part in sports events.

Sports massage promotes healing, relieves pain, reduces swelling, improves flexibility, increases circulation, improves range of movement of the joints, removes waste products, reduces anxiety and prepares the athlete for the challenge ahead. It can be used just before or after an event as well as to support training on a long term basis.
